This was my first post on Flickr in August 2009, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes playing in Victoria Park, East London, on day of the launch of their first album in the UK.

2012 Serpentine Gallery Summer Pavilion, Kensington Gardens, completion

The 2012 Serpentine Gallery Summer Pavilion, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and Ai Weiwei, opened on i June 2012 in Kensington Gardens, London, UK.

Eleven columns characterising each past pavilion and a twelfth column representing the current structure  support a floating platform roof, which can collect rainwater. The pavilion's interior is clad in cork, a sustainable building material chosen for its unique qualities and to echo the excavated earth.

In Kensington Gardens, preparations are under way for the 2012 Serpentine Gallery Summer Pavilion, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and Ai Weiwei. The space for the pavilion is created by excavation under the lawn that was used by the previous pavilions. Eleven columns characterising each past pavilion and a twelfth column representing the current structure will support a floating platform roof. The pavilion's interior will be clad in cork, a sustainable building material chosen for its unique qualities and to echo the excavated earth.

Snow photos, East London, Feb 2012

Snow always makes for some good photos if you can get the exposure right.

The new Pogoda is being built in Victoria Park as part of the restoration work. It is not finished but it looks good in the snow:

P is for Pavilion

Reflections Serpentine 2009 Pavilion 2, by Cybermyth13.

Each year the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens, London, has a temporary summer pavilion designed by an architect who has not built in the UK before. This produces some interesting results.

In 2009 the deign was by the Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of the architecture firm SANAA. One of the features of the building was the reflective ceiling.

Snow creates a special atmosphere, especially in a park. In December 2010, the snow settled not only in the ground but also in the trees. With the low light of late afternoon, it looked magical.

Photo from 1985 becomes topical - Keep off the ice

Platt Fields, Manchester, in winter, 1985 - 2, by Cybermyth13.

Someone asked if I had any pictures of Platt Fields in Manchester so I posted on Flickr some pictures of ice on the lake in Platt Fields in 1985. A couple of days after I had posted the pictures it snowed heavily in London and  I took the pictures of the snow in Victoria Park, East London. So many people looked at my pictures of the London snow that the Platt Fields photos had around 100 views each on that day from people clicking through from my snow pictures.

These days I think people would be more careful about going on the ice.

I went for a walk in the fresh snow this afternoon and took some pictures in Victoria Park. When I posted some of them to Flickr, I had loads of views the same evening. Obviously some people stayed in and spent time on their computer today. Many of the views, over 750, came from simple searches within Flickr for "UK snow". It shows how much we care about the weather.
