Carnaby Street

Trust Carnaby Street to have a non-Christmassy theme for its Christmas lights. This year the theme is Carnival, as in South American jungle with Coconut trees and parrots.

2011 Christmas lights, Covent Garden, London

The 2011 Christmas lights and decorations are very similar to last year at Covent Garden with the red baubles but the star lights have been replaced retro glitter balls and spot lights. The lights are reflected onto the ceiling and the side arches have extra lights so it make the halls seem brighter.

See  this set on Flickr for other pictures of the Covent Garden piazza.

2011 Christmas Lights, Oxford Street, London

Last Saturday evening I got some good pictures of the Oxford Street 2011 Christmas lights. By reducing the exposure as much as possible the lights came out well. The umbrella and parcels are the same as last year but the Stars are new, replacing the large parcels from last year.

See this set on Flickr for other pictures of 2011 Christmas lights in London.

Covent Garden in the evening

Even in December with all the Christmas shoppers, it can be difficult at times for a busker to attract a crowd. I guess they are too busy shopping to have time for buskers and it was a bit cold at the time. The Christmas decorations were good.

Photo of the week - White Christmas at Lovelace House, Haggerston Estate, E8

The peacefulness of a construction site on Christmas Day provides a contrast to the usual urban bustle. This is the last remaining part of Lovelace House on Haggerston Estate, Hackney, in the snow on Christmas Day. The old blocks are being knocked down to be replaced by new blocks designed by architects PRP (Phippen Randall & Parkes), see PRP website.

Topical 2010 Christmas lights from House of Fraser, Oxford St,

Lights in the form of snow flakes on the House of Fraser store on Oxford Street prove topical in the current weather. The umbrella and the boxes are part of the street decorations.

For other pictures of Christmas lights, see my 2010 Xmas pictures on Flickr.

2010 Christmas lights, Carnaby Steret

Carnaby Street has a new theme for its lights, Outer Space. Although it includes santa in a space helmet, it is not particularly Christmassy, but it is colourful with a red saturn and golden rings, a white moon and other planets and stars of many colours.

Oxford Street and Regent Street have similar lights to last year, but Regent Street has added pictures of the main characters in the Chronicles of Narnia films.
